Meet Joshua
Therapy is a space where individuals from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds, including military members, children, families, and couples, can find support for a variety of challenges. Whether grappling with existential questions like “Who am I?” or facing mental health struggles such as anxiety, depression, or obsessive thoughts, the goal is to foster healing and personal growth. I believe therapy should empower, not label, and serve as a tool for development. In a society where mental health stigma often leads to fear of being labeled as “abnormal” or “untreatable,” many people suffer in silence or resort to stoicism. My approach emphasizes that it is not about diagnosis or labels, but about understanding and respecting each person’s unique experiences and story. While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely used and effective approach, the work together will be personalized to fit your specific needs and challenges. If you feel comfortable sharing your story, it would be an honor to listen and support you.
Couples
I see every relationship as a one-of-a-kind journey, rich with its own experiences and obstacles. Couples therapy is customized to capture the unique love you have, differing roles, dreams, and perspectives, all the while balancing harmony and respect when faced with indifference. In couple’s therapy with me we explore your emotional dynamics and enhance your communication while empowering both of you to reframe your relationship’s narrative, focusing on your strengths and common goals. My aim is to help you revive the closeness that initially connected you and help you develop a strong partnership capable of enduring life’s challenges.
Individuals
Much like couple’s counseling, my individual counseling sessions focus on creating a supportive and compassionate space for you to explore yourself. This approach encourages you to recognize your emotions and experiences, moving past immediate issues to uncover challenges linked to your past, present, and future. I provide a non-judgmental atmosphere that I believe is essential to enable you to reflect on how your history and behaviors influence your current circumstances. By recognizing these patterns, you can deepen your self-awareness and begin the journey towards personal development.
Anxiety & Depression
Anxiety and depression are prevalent issues that affect millions of individuals globally. Those who experience these conditions often find themselves burdened by constant sadness, intense worry, hopelessness, and diminished productivity, which can hinder their daily activities. If not properly addressed, these challenges naturally worsen, potentially leading to more severe problems such as substance abuse and declining physical health. However, counseling sits at the forefront, assisting you in coping with these issues, providing effective therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques to promote healing and resilience, improve quality of life, and detecting notions of anxiety and depression before they occur.
Experience
My personal journey, which includes growing up in the foster care system, being adopted by a military family, and later serving in the United States Army, has provided me with a unique perspective that shapes my work with clients. Having traveled to over 30 countries, with South Korea being a standout favorite, I’ve gained exposure to diverse cultures, enriching my understanding of the world. During my time in the military, I witnessed the profound effects of deployment, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and suicide, which affected both soldiers and their families, both overseas and at home. These experiences motivated me to pursue a career in mental health. Over the years, I’ve gained valuable experience working in mental health hospitals, crisis intervention, and as a Registered Behavior Therapist (RBT). My goal is to dedicate my life to helping others improve their well-being, build self-efficacy, and gain deeper understanding. I firmly believe that clinical counseling is crucial, as it allows individuals to express their emotions in a healthy way and empowers them to take control of their lives.
