Garrison Smalley

Hi! My name is Garrison Smalley, and I’m a counseling intern at Denver Seminary who grew up in Colorado Springs and spent much of my life enjoying the mountains and the outdoors throughout Colorado. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve individuals in this community and walk alongside them in their growth and healing.

I value creating a counseling environment where people feel known, supported, and free to explore their experiences without judgment. My approach to counseling draws from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Narrative Therapy. At the same time, I believe each person’s story is unique, so I tailor the counseling process to fit your specific needs and goals.

I seek to work collaboratively with clients, helping them identify strengths, gain insight, understand patterns in their lives, and develop practical tools that support meaningful growth and lasting change. I specialize in working with children, teens, young adults, men, and athletes navigating both personal and performance-related challenges. Clients often seek counseling for concerns such as stress, anxiety, life transitions, self-understanding, relationship difficulties, and challenges affecting their overall well-being.

I am passionate about helping individuals of all ages cultivate deeper personal insight, strengthen self-awareness, and better understand themselves, their relationships, and the patterns that shape their lives. In addition to these areas, I have experience supporting individuals and families navigating adoption-related concerns and am passionate about helping athletes work through the unique mental, emotional, and performance-related challenges that can accompany sports participation. Personal connections to both adoption and athletics have deeply influenced my passion for this work and continue to shape the way I connect with and support clients.
