I work with you to design a tailored counseling plan around your unique counseling goals, incorporating faith-based/ Biblical counseling when desired. All counseling begins with an in-depth intake as I strongly believe that our previous experiences can have great influence over our present lives. Having context can be of great help to me as your therapist.
COUPLES — Married | Engaged | Dating People are designed for relationship, that is why we hurt so deeply when our most intimate relationships are not working properly. Because of this, I pull a lot from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which is based in attachment theory, that addresses your emotional bond with your spouse/ significant other. Couples will learn about the Emotionally Focused cycle they get themselves into as well as how to have conversations where both are truly heard. The goal is a stronger emotional bond between the couple, resulting in the ability to communicate and understand one another on a deeper level. INDIVIDUALS — 17+ years old As with my couples, I pull a lot from EFT to help clients heal and process. This approach considers attachment wounds that may be actively affecting your mental health in the here and now. This can be a major factor in many areas to include anxiety, guilt, shame, and overall functioning. Emotionally Focused Therapy is non-pathologizing, meaning that the approach does not lean on diagnosis of a mental health disorder to treat. Instead, it views attachment wounds as the main source of mental health issues and emotional bonding as the avenue to healing. OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER (OCD) — 17+ years old* Many of my OCD clients say, “I just want someone who doesn’t think I’m crazy!” That’s me! I don’t think OCD is crazy, as a matter-of-fact, I think it makes a lot of sense. That’s why my preferred approach is Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT). This is not exposure therapy (ERP). ICBT is different from ERP in so many ways, but perhaps one of the most profound is that it approaches ICBT as a doubting disorder, not as an anxiety disorder; it addresses that OCD is attacking who you know yourself to be at your core. If your looking for something other than ERP, I highly encourage that you reach out to me about this modality. *Younger ages considered on a case-by-case basis. OCD & COUPLES COUNSELING I utilize my training as a marriage and family therapist and combine it with my skills working with OCD to create a unique therapy opportunity for couples where one or both has OCD. EXPERIENCE & TRAINING I feel that life experiences are greatly beneficial to the personhood of the counselor and many clients want to know about them. I have been married since 2007, shortly after, my husband joined the Army (active duty) and made me a proud Army spouse. I would be happy to discuss therapy with you and answer any questions you may have to see if I may be a good fit for you. Filling out my contact form on this page is the best way to reach me. I strive to answer inquiries within 1 business day. |
